11 March 2025 we left Cammeray in Sydney to fly home to Adelaide for 2 months. Unfortunately, 2 months turned into almost 5 months later. It was nice to be home and catch up with family and many of our friends. We went to events, to the movies, out to dinners, quiz nights, and had Easter at our place with Markus’ mum and brother who came over from Tasmania. All that was fantastic! Then there was the other reason we stayed longer - to do repairs, massive cleaning, renovating and fixing problems at our rental that was left in a disheveled state by ex-tenants. Our rental looked amazing when we finished and we were very pleased and happy with the final outcome, even though it was a very stressful and tough time. Thank goodness that is all over and once the property was ready to rent out again, it was time to go back to Sydney and back to the boat.

26 July 2025 we chose to drive a transfer car back to Sydney instead of flying. That in itself was an experience. We took 2 days to drive stopping overnight in Underbool and just after Yass. The weather was wet and miserable, however, the scenery was beautiful and it was lovely driving through the different country towns.

28 July 2025 - we arrived near Sydney. The weather started to warm up and was beautiful and sunny. We dropped off the car just out of Sydney. Caught a bus to the train station which took us to North Sydney where we called an uber to Cammeray. We rang for the water taxi to pick up us to take us to Dione. It was so nice to be back in Cammeray and back in Sydney, to see Dione, Dione had been on a mooring and left for almost 5 months in the Bay so we didn’t know what to expect to find, and what condition she would be in. We had 5 days to clean her up and get her ready to move on. While we were in Adelaide we had the barnacles cleaned off the bottom of the boat so when we got back to Sydney we could do a tidy up and a few jobs that needed doing and then we could be off to sail back up North to warmer weather. Well that was the plan, but the weather changed and was cold and wet which made it harder to work on Dione and get her ready for sailing.

Travel blog (Part 2) - January 2025 to 11 March 2025

Our travel blogs were too long, so I’ve split them in two parts: Part 1 for 2024 and Part 2 for 2025.

We left Jibbon Beach, Port Hacking, NSW, very early one morning to sail to Jervis Bay, NSW. However, the weather had turned and was rough, so we decided to go back to the beach in protected waters.

That’s sailing for you, we are driven by the weather so lots of patience is required, which is a skill I am having to master but getting better at.

We have had a messy start to our sailing, as our boat has required a lot more love and repairs than we realised. Just another part of boating, there is always something to fix, replace or modify. We are getting quite good at it now though…

Our First Sail

Our first sailing trip was very special as we sailed alongside, and with our friends, Lida and Bill who are masters of sailing as they built their boat, lived and sailed it for over 23 years. They now live onboard in the Marina where we met them.

Sailing South (as far as Port Macquarie, NSW)

The plan was to sail South to Adelaide and be home for Christmas.

Unfortunately, we have run out of time due to unexpected maintenance and repairs.

Our schedule is also determined by wind, weather, tides and currents.

We will be home for Christmas but not with Dione.

We will be flying home from Sydney and Dione will be looked after in a marina, not too far from where we are in NSW.

We will be back early January 2025 to continue the voyage home.
